The Old World
Timber framing is the oldest form of wood construction. Japanese pagodas from the ninth century and majestic European cathedrals from the Middle Ages are examples of the art and architecture of timber framing that still stand today. These grand old structures are testimonials to the quality of timber frame joinery and to the artisans who created them. Learning from their example, we incorporate much of the same joinery techniques today to connect our posts to beams and rafters to top plates to create homes and commercial buildings that will last for centuries.
Today we celebrate those same building techniques, but we marry the old world joinery techniques with 21st century insulating methods to create structures of uncompromising beauty that are at the same time easy to heat and cool. We combine the old with the new by enclosing our frames with an uninterrupted skin of high density insulation, also known as structural insulated panels that envelope the structure of the frame and form the outside walls of the house. The R values created with this type of insulation far exceed the industry standards for LEED certified buildings and create living environments that are both beautiful and comfortable to live in.
